Our Story
Hi, I’m Tammy—and I’m truly so glad you’re here!
My path to becoming a first-generation farmer wasn’t a traditional one. I spent 20 years serving as a helicopter pilot in the United States Coast Guard, working long hours and spending many nights away from home. I retired in 2023 and was finally able to put down roots in Cottage Grove, Oregon. After growing up as a military brat and moving every few years my entire life, having a place to truly call home was really special.
I expected the transition to a slower pace of life to be hard—but it turns out life on our homestead is anything but boring.
When I met my husband, Trace (who is also a retired 20-year United States Coast Guard Veteran), he introduced me to his passion for hunting. Eating pure, organic, grass-fed, ethically sourced meat—where the only hands that touched it were ours—completely changed how I thought about food. Knowing exactly where my food came from, and the care required to harvest and prepare it, sparked a deep desire to eat better and choose food raised with intention and kindness.
That spark turned into a full-blown passion when Trace built me the garden of my Pinterest dreams in 2024. What started as a backyard hobby quickly became a calling—to grow clean, nourishing food for my family, free from unnecessary additives and disconnected supply chains.
Over the last two years, I’ve poured my heart into growing and preserving food, cooking from scratch, and raising chickens, all with one simple goal: to put pure, personal, pasture-raised food on the table for the people I love. Along the way, I felt a strong pull to become more self-reliant and less dependent on the broken, industrial, large-scale food system. From that journey, Sentinel Family Farm was born.
My hope is that Sentinel Family Farm can be a place you trust—a place where you feel good about the food you’re feeding your family, where real, honest food is made accessible for busy families who want better without the guesswork or time commitment. Just as important, I want you to feel connected to your food and to the people who grow, raise, and harvest it, so you know exactly where it comes from and the care that went into every step along the way.
Together with the help of my in-laws, Rick and Susan, my family is honored to share this journey with you and grateful to be part of your table. Thank you for choosing local, supporting a small family farm, and believing in the value of knowing where your food comes from. It means the world to us to provide food for our community, and we hope it brings as much happiness and peace of mind to your home as it does to ours.
